Skin conductance instruments are
the simplest biofeedback devices to use. Two finger sensors are attached the
fingertips and a control sets the meter or tone to a middle position. As the
person relaxes, the pitch of the tone drops. With eyes closed a person can
tune into the tone, getting clear feedback of his or her reactions.
The instrument reflects primarily
activity of the sympathetic nervous system. By the use of this instrument in
a systematic training procedure both mediators and hypnotists can improve
their work. When a person relaxes their skin resistance increases.
When he is tense, excited, or anxious, his skin resistance decreases
